I am off to Malta in a couple of days to see one of my friends—whom I’ve known for over 20 years—become a Knight of Grace in the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, the hereditary order that Sir Jason and I are both members of. I will have pictures and lots of fun stories for my next column in July…

My Father – Sir Jason Winters: A Vision of Hope That Sparked a Global Herbal Revolution

In a time when alternative health was dismissed as fringe and hopeless diagnoses were met with resignation, my father dared to believe in something greater—a vision not just of survival, but of healing and purpose. Diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1977 and told he had only months to live, he did something extraordinary: he refused to give up. His life became a story not just of personal triumph, but of a global movement—one that continues to bring hope to millions today through the healing power of his herbal tea.

The Diagnosis That Changed Everything

Before his illness, Dad had lived an adventurous life—traveling the world, exploring the unknown. But it was cancer, ironically, that would become his most defining challenge. When his doctors found an inoperable tumor in his throat that had spread to his tongue, tonsils, and jawbone, with a primary tumor wrapped around his carotid artery, the prognosis was grim: there was nothing more they could do. Terminal.

Although my father would endure 70 cobalt radiation treatments, and the plan was to follow up with a risky operation—to his doctors’ shock and horror, he declined the operation—where they would remove an artery from his leg and replace the artery in his neck. Even with that plan, he was terminal. In those days, there was no “Stage 4 cancer.” He was simply terminal.

As my father wrote in his landmark book Killing Cancer, “When doctors gave me a death sentence, I decided to go on living.” That decision—to take control of his fate—marked the beginning of a journey that would change not just his life, but countless others.

A Global Quest for Healing

Instead of surrendering, he became a man on a mission. He traveled across continents, meeting with monks, tribal elders, herbalists, and shamans. He dug deep into ancient wisdom and folk medicine, searching for natural remedies long forgotten by the modern world. Through persistence, prayer, and intuition, Dad eventually discovered herbs—individually from three different continents—the ingredients that he eventually mixed into a combination of herbs that he made into a tea.

This formula is truly remarkable and unique, which he believed worked synergistically to cleanse the body and support healing.

Drinking his self-crafted herbal infusion, my father began to experience what even he called a miracle: the tumor stopped growing. Then, it began to shrink. In time, it vanished entirely.

His cancer was gone—in remission—and his mission had just begun.

The Birth of a Legacy: Sir Jason Winters Herbal Tea

What started as a personal remedy became the foundation for what is now one of the most trusted and widely distributed herbal teas in the world. My father didn’t keep his discovery to himself. He wrote extensively, sharing both his journey and his recipe with transparency and generosity. In Killing Cancer, he chronicled not just the formula, but the emotional and spiritual transformation that accompanied it. He spoke openly about the power of faith, the role of nature, and the resilience of the human spirit.

His tea wasn’t just a drink—it was a symbol of survival, of courage, and of the belief that nature offers tools that science is still learning to respect.

My Tribute: What If? and the Legacy Continued

Years later, I would pen a deeply personal and moving tribute titled What If?: Reflections of My Father’s Life. The book is a meditation not only on Jason’s healing, but on the legacy he left behind. In it, I ask readers to consider what might be possible if we looked at life—especially in times of crisis—not with fear, but with curiosity and courage.

“What if one man’s determination could heal not only himself, but help heal the world?” I asked. The answer lies in the tea, in the stories of those who have found hope through it, and in the countless lives touched by Sir Jason’s unwavering belief in the human spirit.

A Vision of Hope, Still Brewing

My father, Sir Jason Winters, passed away in December of 2004, but his vision lives on—in every cup of herbal tea brewed by someone looking for comfort, in every testimony of recovery, and in every person who dares to believe that healing is possible even when all seems lost.

Today, his products are sold in over 70 countries. His books continue to inspire. And his message remains timeless:

“Don’t give up. Nature has answers. Life is worth fighting for.”

At his slowest moment, and in an act of desperation, really the simple act of boiling water and steeping three herbs together, he reminded the world that even in the darkest moments, there is always light… and there is always hope.
